Press ReleasesCapella Announces Telcordia Qualification of WavePath® 4500SAN JOSE, CA – March 27, 2007 – Capella, the leading provider of wavelength selective switches (WSS) for use in reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) and optical cross connect (OXC) applications, today announced the qualification of its WavePath® 4500 with integrated optical channel monitor (OCM) in accordance with Telcordia and other worldwide standards. Larry Schwerin, Capella President & CEO stated, “This milestone achievement is a critical requirement for widespread acceptance by telecom equipment manufacturers. Additionally, it’s a significant demonstration of the reliability of the Capella design.” Elizabeth Perry, VP of Engineering noted, “Capella’s WavePath® 4500 modules have gone through a battery of environmental, mechanical and operational stress tests to quantify and characterize lifetime reliability. Tests performed and passed followed guidelines set forth in GR-468, GR-1312, GR-63, GR-1073, FOTP-11, ETS 300 and other appropriate or required standards.” Shoa-Kai Liu, Senior Advisor at Rustic Canyon Partners and former Director of Network Technology Development at MCI added, “Completing qualification successfully enables Capella’s customers to move forward with planned network deployments with the assurance that these switching fabrics provide the needed robustness and carrier grade performance to manage and protect next-generation IP over Optical Networks being planned and deployed worldwide.” The WavePath® 4500 with integrated OCM offers the best performing 9x1 or 1x9 WSS functionality in the industry featuring the widest passbands and lowest insertion loss, maximizing cascadeability of transparent nodes and minimizing amplification costs. The integrated OCM provides power monitoring, center wavelength monitoring, signal-to-noise ratio variance and the unique diagnostic ability to verify all connections through the subsystem --Capella’s patented Wavelength Connectivity Confirmation. Further, the closed-loop control system ensures optimal performance and reliability over all operating conditions throughout its lifetime, and this functionality has now successfully passed through the required worldwide standards. Capella is featuring live demonstrations of its products at OFC/NFOEC Booth #3713 at the Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, California , March 27-29, 2007.
